Finally, the ultimate aim of the present project is to integrate all the above-mentioned subproblems into global MHD simulations, starting from an unstable magnetic configuration at the base of the corona to the interaction of the resulting CME / magnetic cloud with the outer magnetosphere of the Earth. By confronting such global simulations with multi-spacecraft observations of specific events, the discrepancies will be identified and the predictive capabilities of such simulations will be evaluated.
