Catania regions 02 (NOAA242) and 10 (NOAA0247) showed also C-flare activity. All these regions turned back to a simple magnetic dipolar configuration at the end of the week. The 10.7 cm flux, which has been growing constantly since Jan 1, started to decrease on Jan 13. Low to moderate conditions may be expected for the beginning of next week. GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY -------------------- The solar wind velocity reached a maximum on 10 January, inducing isolated active conditions, ssentially observed at Wingst. Out of these periods, the field was quiet to unsettled. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed this week. Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions are expected fo the beginning of next week. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAILY INDICES DATE RC 10CM Ak BKG M X 2003 Jan 06 161 162 /// B7.4 0 0 2003 Jan 07 150 163 008 B9.3 2 0 2003 Jan 08 191 174 004 B9.4 0 0 2003 Jan 09 183 183 004 C1.1 1 0 2003 Jan 10 /// 185 015 B7.6 0 0 2003 Jan 11 /// 189 012 B8.7 0 0 2003 Jan 12 156 173 008 B7.1 0 0 # RC : Sunspot index from Catania Observatory (Italy) # 10cm: 10.7 cm radioflux (DRAO, Canada) # Ak : Ak Index Wingst (Germany) # BKG : Background GOES X-ray level (NOAA, USA) # M,X : Number of X-ray flares in M and X class, see below (NOAA, USA) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTICEABLE EVENTS DAY BEGIN MAX END LOC XRAY OP 10CM TYPE Cat NOAA NOTE 07 0729 0750 0811 S24E07 M1.0 1F III/1 03 0244 07 2325 2333 2340 S1E89 M4.9 SF 81 13 0251 EIT deriv. location 0073909 0532 0537 0544 S14E64 M1.0 1N 13 0251
